On Saturday September 26 at 11am Pulborough’s famous free Harvest Fair will once again stage one of the largest and most spectacular village events in the area.
The fair will celebrate Sussex’s finest - with local delicacies, Sussex brewers, bakers, craftsmen, musicians, animals, tractors and much, much more.
A great day out for all the family, there will be all the old favourites and lots of new things to see, taste and do too!
This year’s principle sponsor is Domino’s who have recently opened a new pizza take away restaurant on Lower Street, Pulborough. So come and visit them and have a go at making your own dough!
There’ll be lots going on in the LMC Autos Arena, including dog agility and displays from Huxley’s flying birds of prey, with audience participation! There’ll be music and children’s games too, so bring a blanket and pitch-up for the afternoon to enjoy the show! The event will be officially opened by our MP Nick Herbert and he will also be judging the annual scarecrow competition.
The fair takes place in the field opposite the Chequers Hotel (RH20 1AD) and the adjacent Parish church. So come and visit the wide ranging stalls and ride the beautiful, traditional Harris Brothers Fun Fair rides.
Support from Harwoods and Pulborough Medical Group means there will be plenty of free entertainment all over the fairground throughout the day, including music from the West Chiltington Silver Band and everyone can have a fun filled and safe afternoon!
The food and drink section, sponsored by So-India, includes beer tents with local beers from Hammerpot and Hepworths, wine from Hennings, a shepherd’s hut serving delicious Sussex lamb, hog roasts, pies, pizza, cakes and lots more.
For children there is the fantastic Comyn and James scarecrow competition (check-out the fairs Facebook page for tips on how to build a scarecrow) and the legendary Tomfoolery children’s show. Children’s favourite – the flying bears will be descending from the church tower, sponsored by Comyn and James
. This year there will also be a fabulous flower festival in the Church created by the Church flower arrangers and the Pulborough Garden Society. As well as organ music and hand bell ringers. After 3pm you can also visit the church tower and take in magnificent views of the village and Wildbrooks.
For those planning on visiting the Harvest Fair with their favourite pooch, dogs are very welcome and can enter Arun Vet’s fun doggie show for £1 each. There will be prizes and rosettes for winners of each fun class - such as “The dog the judge would most like to take home! No need to register just come along on the day.
For adults and children alike there are lots of traditional competitions and entertainments including the apple bobbing, Wellie Throwing, treasure hunts. Prior to the event free brochures will be widely available that include discount offers from local businesses as well as all the fair details and, on the day tickets will be available for the Harvest Fair Raffle with amazing prizes including hampers, experiences from driving days to a peak behind the scenes at Arun vets, gardening help, signed books, vouchers and lots, lots more.
Free event parking is signed to local car parks, all within five minutes walk of the fair and for those with walking difficulties there is a free shuttle-bus from the Lower Street Car park in Old Pulborough village.
