The new Sainsbury’s Local in Billingshurst opened today (August 6).
The national supermarket chain has taken over the unit previously occupied by Budgens in High Street.
Paul Berry, chairman of Billingshurst BEAT Responders, the stores chosen charity for 2015, joined store manager Ian Goacher this morning to cut the ribbon officially opening the new store.
Mr Goacher said: “As the new store manager of the Billingshurst High Street Local, I am extremely proud to be opening our new store today. Colleagues and I have been looking forward to welcoming our new customers and showcasing the great range of products we have on offer.
“I would like to thank Paul Berry who joined us today from BEAT Responders for the ribbon cutting. We hope to continue working closely with BEAT Responders and the rest of the local community.”
On social media customers have expressed their excitement about the new stores opening.
Ollie Porter said: “Excellent first experience in the new Sainsbury’s local in #Billingshurst and good croissants from the bakery #Yummy.”
Nick Layt said: “A busy first day in the new Billingshurst Sainsbury’s. Just as well BEAT responders are on hand in case the excitement gets too much.”
The shop was closed for three months whilst conversion works were carried out after both companies agreed a deal over the supermarket in March.
20 new jobs have been created and all previous employees have been retained with the hope more jobs will become available in the future.
The store will be open from 7am until 11pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sunday’s.
