Prince Charles gives royal stamp of approval to Horsham schoolgirl’s Christmas design

After beating off around a quarter of a million entries Molly Robson, 7, a pupil at Leechpool Primary School in Horsham, met the Prince of Wales at Clarence House on Wednesday (October 30) where she was presented with a framed copy of her winning entry.

Her design was one of two chosen by a panel led by Prince Charles in only the third time in Royal Mail’s near-500 year history children have designed the Christmas stamps.

The first-class stamp, featuring Father Christmas, will be on sale from November 5 across the UK.

Molly said: “It will make me happy to see my design as a stamp.

“My mum told me I had won by giving me a postbox money box. There was a note inside telling me that I had been chosen as the winner!”

Molly also received £1,000 of vouchers and won £1,000 for her school.

Nicola Davenport, headteacher at Leechpool Primary School, said: “We are all very proud of Molly and look forward to celebrating her success next week in school.

“She has been excited about the competition and was very proud to be a finalist. This week’s announcement as the competition winner is a fantastic achievement for her. Everyone at Leechpool Primary sends her their congratulations.”
