Horsham District Council has signed a four year plan to help make it easier for local businesses to get contracts with the council.
HDC has been working with Mid Sussex District Council and and Crawley Borough Council to develop a Joint Procurement Strategy up to 2016 and at it was officially adopted by theHDC cabinet last week.
Roger Arthur, cabinet member for efficiency and resources said: “We want make this district more business friendly. I hope we can continue to work with a lot of stake holders so we can see where the difficulties are a resolve them.”
Roger Paterson (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham) suggested the council should adopt a clause for planning agreements which stated suppliers had to be local to the district - a scheme he heard about from another Sussex council.
Jonathan Chowen (Con, Cowfold, Shermanbury and West Grinstead) added the strategy enables councils to share knowedge to make the process more efficient.
