Further 165 Broadbridge Heath houses and new care home ‘will bring utter chaos’

Applicants Gleeson Developments and the trustees of CJ Lucas’s Children’s 1967 Settlement are hoping to gain outline permission for the site north of Old Guildford Road.

Barton Willmore, acting as agents for the scheme, held a consultation event with residents in late August 2013.

However Broadbridge Heath villagers have already made their opposition to the scheme clear with many writing to HDC. Around 35 letters of objection have already been validated by the council.

On HDC’s public planning portal one resident said: “The development will bring utter chaos to the only road that runs through the village, that is already used extensively as a cut through.

“This is due to the massive Wickhurst Green development that is doubling the size of the village over an eight year period.”

Another added: “This beautiful village is already being developed beyond imagining, with the few open spaces left being destroyed with housing, some on dangerous flood plains. Enough is enough - the village atmosphere is dangerously near extinction, we don’t want or need any further. Do the right thing and turn this down.”

Meanwhile a Facebook page has been set up ‘No Building in Broadbridge Heath’, receiving 167 likes.

The proposed two-storey 60-bed care home would provide nursing, dementia and residential care.

Countryside Properties have outline permission for 963 homes south of Broadbridge Heath. Countryside, along with Bovis Homes and David Wilson Homes, have full planning permission for some of the homes, with the first residents moving in last year.
