HORSHAM MP Francis Maude has issued a statement in response to the criticism of his remarks about stocking petrol in a jerry can in your garage.
His comments have been widely lampooned and have been said to the cause of panic buying of petrol.
After criticism from the fire brigade’s union, amongst others, Mr Maude retracted his comments.
In a statement he said: “There is no imminent strike and the unions would have to give seven days’ notice of any strike, so there is no need to queue to buy petrol.
“But of course people should take sensible precautions and top up their tanks when the opportunity arises”.
