Deputy praises ‘immense contribution’ of outgoing Lib Dem council leader

Frances Haigh (LDem, Horsham Park), who will serve as interim leader until a new group head is elected, said that David Holmes (LDem, Horsham Park), who stepped down as head of the group this week, had shown great dedication to the residents of Horsham.

Dr Holmes resigned this week to spend more time enjoying his retirement.

Mrs Haigh said: “I would like to pay tribute to Cllr David Holmes for the immense contribution he has made to Horsham in his time as leader of the Liberal Democrats at Horsham District Council.

“Many people are unaware of the work involved in being a councillor. David has been very dedicated, working long hours to contribute to the decisions being made on behalf of residents.

“He is extremely knowledgeable and brings a wealth of business and managerial experience to the council. I am pleased that he is continuing as a councillor and we will still be able to benefit from his expertise.”

Speaking to the County Times earlier this week Dr Holmes said: “Overall I have enjoyed it, overall it has been a privilege and it’s provided an opportunity to influence a lot that happens in the council.”
