A councillor representing Cranleigh has joined the former Horsham District Council (HDC) deputy leader Roger Arthur in becoming a member of the UK Independence Party.

Waverley Borough councillor Brett Vorley (UKIP, Cranleigh East) left the Conservative Party last month and sat on the council as an independent.

His decision to join UKIP makes him the third UKIP councillor to sit on the Conservative council and comes just a fortnight after Roger Arthur, HDC member for Chanctonbury left the Conservative Party in favour UKIP, which he called ‘the real Conservative Party’.

Across the border in East Sussex, Lewes District Council has been left with no clear majority after Peacehaven councillor Phil Howsen, also a member of East Sussex County Council joined UKIP.
