Horsham planning committee cut off due to YouTube ‘violation’

“What are we supposed to have violated?” was the incredulous question when a planning committee was cut off in mid flow by YouTube for ‘violating’ its terms of service.

Horsham District Council had already held one successful online meeting on Tuesday (April 21) so members were somewhat surprised to learn they had fallen foul of the video sharing giant halfway through the second.

Alerted to the problem, chairman Karen Burgess joked: “What are we supposed to have violated? Everyone’s fully dressed aren’t they?”

The meeting was also being audiocast via the council’s website, allowing members of the public to listen in.

The committee was discussing plans to build six homes in Park Lane, Maplehurst, when the glitch occurred.

Officers recommended that the application, for three sets of three-bedroom semi-detached houses and a new access road onto Park Lane, be approved.

While some members had some concerns, the majority agreed with the officers and the plans were approved by 21 votes to two, with one abstention.
