Police issue update after fatal A24 crash
Police have issued an update after a man died in a fatal crash on the A24 near Southwater.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police confirmed a 19-year-old arrested by officers on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released without charge.
A 28-year-old who was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been released under investigation while enquiries continue, she added.
Emergency services scrambled to the scene of the collision at 1.25pm on Sunday (December 6), after reports of a Lexus colliding with a tree.
A Sussex Police spokesman said at the time: “Officers, ambulance and fire crews attended and a 24-year-old man – the passenger from the Lexus – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.”
The road was closed in both directions between Southwater and the Hop Oast roundabout.
Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the Lexus or a white Toyota being driven prior to the collision, or who has any dash-cam footage that could assist with enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to report it to Sussex Police online or call 101, quoting Operation Hampstead.
