Armed officers and a police helicopter were sent to Warnham to search for a man believed to be armed yesterday evening (Monday September 7).

Police were called to a property in the village after receiving reports of a man standing outside a house and breaking a window pane. Officers were told he might be armed.

Taser-trained officers attended to secure the premises and initially armed officers and a helicopter were deployed to search for the suspect.

Police said further information later led to the threat level being reduced but a search for the suspect continued until he was found and detained at an address in Horsham. He was not armed and no one was injured.

A 47-year-old man from Horsham has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and is currently in police custody while enquiries continue, the force said.
