In September the County Times revealed a new scheme was being proposed to regenerate the area which would see a new cinema, shops and restaurants created.

The proposals have been drawn up as a joint venture by property development and investment company Reef Estates and construction and property consultants Arcus.

The latest plans show the building which housed the former Waitrose store for more than 20 years will be turned into a three screen Everyman cinema. A cafe/restaurant will be located on the first floor with an outside seating area overlooking Piries Place.

A 92-bed hotel will be built alongside the cinema in the units formerly home to Beeches cafe and Pets Corner. The building will span four storeys plus the ground floor entrance.

The first floor will host the reception and dining area with a few rooms while the remaining accommodation will be located in the other three storeys. One floor has been removed from the original plans due to height concerns from the local authority.

The shops in the area will be enhanced with a new curved entrance created on the building on the southern side of the development, which is home to stores such as Broadbridges and the Framing Centre.

The office space will be retained and improved.

The plans also state the public realm will be enhanced with new benches and paving while the iconic Mr. Pirie Sitting on his Donkey Cart statue will be relocated on site.

A public exhibition was held on October 17 where residents were asked to leave their feedback on the scheme.

Will Rohleder, Reef Estates Development Director, said: “Our intention is to create a high quality vibrant addition to Horsham Town Centre – we are really grateful for the feedback we received prior to the planning application being submitted and are excited about the prospect of this new development for Horsham Town Centre. The application is now with Horsham District Council and we await their decision with interest.”
