VIDEO: Flutterbys and Fly-by-nights

Bob Palmer will be displaying cases of moths in a new exhibition at Storrington Museum, opening on Saturday April 13

‘Flutterbys and Fly-by-nights’ will include cabinets of moths that Bob has collected over the years and he will be sharing his extensive knowledge on the subject. He will also bring along some larvae that he collected from his own garden.

The exhibition will also include information from Butterfly Conservation and Sussex Wildlife Trust.

Bob said: “There are 2,600 species of moth in Britain, and in my garden in Storrington I’ve recorded 680 species.

“I’ve been fascinated by them since I was six years old and it’s become a lifetime’s interest.

“I’ll be giving a talk including a slideshow at 11am on Saturday ,and again at 2pm.

“I hope some young visitors may develop an ongoing interest, just as I did.”

Cabinets of moths, caught many years ago, will feature some very rare species as well as the countries’ most common - a tiny moth with a wing-span of just 4mm which is now killing a large number of our horse chestnut trees.

The exhibition will run until the end of June.
