The winner of the Horsham district’s champion hot chocolate competition has been revealed following dozens of entries.

The Eye Café at Dixey.CB Opticians in West Street, Horsham, came out on top with its ‘ultimate chocolate mess’ which was chosen as the best by voters commenting on a post on the Horsham Time Well Spent Facebook page.

Close runners up in the contest, which was held by Horsham District Council (HDC) during the festive period, were Pretty Things in Park Place, and D&D in Swan Walk – all in Horsham town centre.

HDC congratulated The Eye Café for its winning hot chocolate, which was described by one customer who voted as ‘delicious, smooth and creamy’.

HDC’s cabinet member for the local economy, Cllr Paul Clarke said: “Our team loved running this competition and hope it added some cheer to people’s Christmas shopping experience across the District.

“I was amazed by the quality and choice of the creations that our visitors had to choose from and want to thank all of the businesses that got involved. I hope you saw an upturn in business from our promotion.

“Look out for news of our latest initiatives supporting local independent businesses during lockdown as we continue to champion our Buy Local campaign throughout Horsham District during 2021.”

The Eye Café will now be receiving a digital business winner’s plaque from HDC.

The competition also saw a member of the public chosen from those voting to receive a prize.

Dawn Baker was chosen at random and will receive her prize of a fabulous chocolate gift box from local chocolatiers, Cocoa Loco, and ‘the opportunity to make chocolates with a member of the Cocoa Loco team in their own home’ as soon as conditions allow.

Other entries in the running included Chococo Horsham, Esquires Coffee, Kaya in the Park, Stooks at Newbridge Nurseries, Sugared Pumpkin, Sophia’s Bar, Muffin Break Horsham, Cafe No4 Horsham, and Beeches Buffet.
