Slinfold boy, 7, cycling 950 miles in April for charity

A young cyclist from Slinfold is riding his bike 950 miles in April to raise money for a diabetes charity.

Lucas Harvey is taking on the challenge, set by Diabetes UK, to ride the equivalent of Lands End to John O’Groats in support of his mum Chantelle, who is a type one diabetic.

Chantelle, 30, said: “He’s a very determined little man.

“I’m so proud of him especially for doing it for diabetes which obviously I suffer with. It’s just so nice that he wanted to do something for me.

“It’s lovely that he’s doing it for a good cause.”

Lucas – a keen cyclist who wants to exceed the 950 mile target and reach 1000 miles this month – said that he feels ‘brave’ when cycling on the road.

The plucky lad – whose favourite post ride snack is a hot dog – has raised more than £500 in aid of Diabetes UK.

He has so far cycled 536 miles, making the most of his Easter break from school to get ahead before lessons return.

Lucas has been doing most of his rides with dad Steven, 38, Chantelle said.

She was first diagnosed as insulin dependent at just 18 months old.

Chantelle added: “He’s on target to reach the 950 miles. He said ‘I just want to do something for you mum’.”
