Terry Wills, who has been organising weekly a bridge club and quiz evenings at Slinfold Golf and Country Club for a number of years, came up with the idea at the end of March after being concerned this year’s chosen charity, Chestnut Tree House, would lose out due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Terry said: “As a result and to counteract possible cabin fever, I created a topical quiz and sent it to an email list of mainly regular attendees at quiz nights (very popular with about 100 participating), bridge players and Sussex Wildlife Trust members who come on a monthly programme of ‘social walks’ that I organise.

“This seemed to strike a chord and so more quizzes were created and shared along with an invitation for recipients to make a donation/pledge to the wonderful local children’s hospice.

“I was staggered by the response and to date nine quizzes have been sent out and a remarkable £2,165 raised for the hospice.

“The quizzes are rather different from the norm: I am not a fan of the typical, general knowledge, pub quiz where you either immediately know the answer or you don’t.

“My quizzes aim to give people more than one way of reaching an answer and to encourage team working: more than anything else, they have to be fun!

“From my point of view, the downside is this means that they take a long time to construct.”
