Pulborough man’s stunning picture of Kingfishers at Horsham nature reserve

Michael’s amazing picture, called Kingfisher Confrontation, was one of 12 winners chosen by the Trust for its 2021 calendar. But he was named overall winner after the vote was opened up for the public to decide.

Sussex Wildlife Trust judges, headed up by professional international wildlife photographer David Plummer, selected 12 finalists from more than 680 entries for its online photography competition. Then it was over to the public, when over 800 people voted for their favourite.

Michael explained: “I took the photograph at Warnham Nature Reserve, near Horsham. I’d been a regular visitor, seeking to photograph this stunning bird.

“On this occasion, I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time, when one male kingfisher aggressively confronted another, who had been quietly watching the water.”

All 12 finalists’ photographs will feature in Sussex Wildlife Trust’s 2021 online calendar, available to download in December this year. The photos will also feature on social media and the Trust’s members’ magazine. Michael has also been offered the chance to take-over the Trust’s Instagram account for a week.
