People in Horsham will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day with a community celebration online.

Friday, May 8, was made a special bank holiday to enable people to take part in huge gatherings and celebrations. Although the new coronavirus has put paid to many planned events, there is still a lot going on across West Sussex to remember Victory in Europe.

Here is what you can do during lockdown to celebrate VE Day

Shannon Mackey-Witton, events officer at Horsham District Council, said: “Join the Horsham community online to celebrate VE Day 75. It’s a bank holiday in celebration and as we cannot celebrate in person, we’ve moved our events online so you can still come along, but virtually this time.”

The council, in partnership with QM Studios, Visit Horsham and many community partners, will be running a programme of celebratory events on the Horsham Facebook page and the Horsham Time Well Spent Facebook page.

In the run up to Friday, there is an online Afternoon Tea and Cake Lovers Trail, with the chance to win afternoon tea at Steyning Tearooms, on the Horsham Time Well Spent Facebook page. There is an additional prize of takeaway afternoon tea delivery voucher for Christina’s Afternoon Tea Room and Gift Shop. You have until the end of tomorrow to complete the trail.
