Residents and staff of Westlake House, run by Barchester Healthcare, say that the letters of hope and drawings have brought them cheer during the current crisis.

And staff have been so touched by the show of community spirit during the ‘Clap for Carers’ on Thursday evenings that they have decided to pay something back.

Westlake House manager Kate Day said: “We have all really enjoyed receiving every creation through our door and I know our carers are humbled by the clapping on Thursday alongside the messages of thanks that have been pouring in.

“I am very proud of everyone during these times but would have expected nothing less – our residents always remain our priority, in everything we do.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of our residents, patients and staff are always our top priorities. We have therefore put in place robust and comprehensive contingency plans to respond to the coronavirus outbreak in the UK.

“Our plans will be kept under regular review and updated as advised by the public health authorities.

“We are playing our part in the wider care sector and supporting the NHS where possible. We are currently still taking admissions into our care homes for those that need care in the next four weeks, so please do give your local Barchester care home a call if you are looking for care or need any further help, and please be assured that we are taking the necessary steps to keep our residents and staff safe and well.”

Westlake House provides residential care and nursing care for 62 residents.
