The chance to appear in a future novel has been donated by Mr James to Horsham’s St Mary’s CofE Primary School’s ‘Autumn Auction’. The UK’s biggest-selling crime thriller novelist, who has had sixteen consecutive Sunday Times No.1 bestsellers is offering the opportunity to have a character with the name of their choice, or a company name, in a future Detective Superintendent Roy Grace story. If the winner chooses to be a character they can be a ‘goody’, a ‘baddy’, a police officer or even a corpse.

This unique lot is one of many fantastic lots on offer in the virtual auction, which will be held between Sunday 8th through to Sunday 15th November. Other items include a football signed by Tottenham Hotspur legend and former England and Chelsea manager Glenn Hoddle, a four-course meal for two at the Michelin starred Restaurant Tristan, a bracelet from Wakefields the Jewellers, and a bespoke brew day experience at Brolly Brewery in Wisborough Green.

The auction is being hosted by the schools’ parent-teacher charity, the HSA, and the money raised will pay for vital educational equipment.

Event organiser Sarah Kirby says she is ‘overwhelmed’ by the support she has received from under-pressure local businesses.

She said: “We all know how hard it has been for almost everybody who runs or owns a business this year which makes the generosity we have received from local business all the more remarkable, and we are truly grateful to have the support of our local community.

“Many of the lots we have on offer are unique, money-cannot-buy experiences which we are sure will prove popular, not just with the school family but also the wider public. To have an author as celebrated as Peter James offer somebody the chance to appear in one of his future novels is very exciting for all of us at St Mary’s.”
