The campaign, which encourages people to back local independent traders, features a series of videos, urging shoppers to buy Christmas gifts locally – either online or in person where possible.

The ‘Buy Local’ initiative also recently created a new online shopping portal www.virtualhorsham.co.uk - a directory of local traders featuring gift ideas and special offers.

Independent businesses featured in the Gift Hunter videos are just some of many from across the district that are now joining the Virtual Horsham online shopping portal and include a new Henfield Hampers coordinated by BN5 magazine, Steyning’s Gris et Blanc, rural Horsham’s Cocoa Loco and Horsham town centre’s Fairkind Child and Sienna Rocks.

Council cabinet member for the local economy Paul Clarke said: “I think we can all do with a little inspiration to find those unexpected special presents for the ones we love, and I am no exception.

“Our campaign shows there are no shortage of gift ideas in our district’s independent businesses, on or off the high street, and I urge everyone to become a ‘Horsham District Gift Hunter’ and to ‘Buy Local’ to support our local economy this year.”
