RAFA owned Sussexdown from 1965 to 2007, when it was acquired by Care South. RAFA still supports the home, regularly raising money to provide activities, entertainment and outings for the residents of Sussexdown – many of whom are RAF veterans.

The Friends of Sussexdown are asking local people who remember the opening of the home under RAFA to come forward and share their memories and would particularly like to hear from anyone who has photos of the day, or who was involved in the opening.

Paula Keene, Chairman of The Friends of Sussexdown, said: “We do hope lots of people will come forward with their memories and photos of the opening and would love to hear them. These will help us build a bank of photos and anecdotes that we will be exhibiting in the home later in the year.”

Heather Rogers, Home Manager at Care South’s Sussexdown care home, said: “We are very grateful for the support that the Friends of Sussexdown continue to give us and the funds they raise throughout the year for the Residents’ Amenity Fund.

“At Care South, we work hard to ensure our residents enjoy the best experiences and The Friends of Sussexdown and RAFA help us to do that.”

The exhibition will be displayed at Sussexdown for residents and their families to view from October 19 to October 25, and at the Christmas Fair on December 5. To contribute, email [email protected] or call 07964 929856.
