Jade Cation parked in Horsham’s Jubilee car park by the bowling alley and paid a £6 fee using an app on her phone.

“I sent the council proof that I had paid the fees and proof of purchase and sale of the cars.

“They replied to say they empathised but I had got it wrong.

“So, although they have already taken the parking money from my account, they will also take the fine.

She added that it was “the principle of it that annoys me.”

A Horsham District Council spokeswoman said: “We have considered the appeal from this particular customer but her appeal was rejected.

“If she feels strongly enough about this situation she can follow the procedures which have been set out for her in correspondence and if necessary the appellant can take the Penalty Charge Notice to a Traffic Penalty Tribunal where an independent adjudicator will look at all the evidence and make a decision.”
