11-year-old Horsham girl runs 10km for Poppy Appeal and gets wreath laid on Remembrance Day

When an 11-year-old Girlguide from Horsham realised there would be no Remembrance Day parade this year, she took it upon herself to make sure the day was still marked as it should be.

Not only did Siobhan Ransom-Dilley get a wreath laid on behalf of Horsham’s 1st Roffey Guides, but she also ran 10km to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

“I believe this is an truly incredible achievement for such a young lady,” said Siobhan’s proud mum Daniella Ransom.

“Siobhan decided to approach her Girlguiding unit to see if a wreath could still be laid and by doing this, the county commissioner was able to get permission for a wreath to be laid in representation of the Girlguides.

“Siobhan was invited to watch the wreath be laid which was an incredibly proud moment for Siobhan, her Guides unit and myself.

“However just getting a wreath laid was not enough for Siobhan and so she decided that to help the Royal British Legion with their Poppy Appeal this year she would run 10km around Tilgate Park.”

The Tanbridge House School pupil did her run at the Crawley park on Saturday, November 14, and completed it in one hour 39 minutes and 53 seconds.

She so far has raised nearly £345 for the Royal British Legion and its Poppy Appeal and she still has donations coming in.
