Take lessons from Leicester

While I applaud the idea of a fully pedestrianised area for the centre of Horsham I would ask the following: will it all be level paving, ie no kerbs to fall over, and if so will the construction of the paved surface be sufficiently robust to withstand the HGV delivery vehicles which need to access the centre?

Broken and misaligned slabs already are obvious in some areas.

I mention this because Leicester city centre was pedestrianised some years ago and two years after major works were required to right the damage done by the HGVs. Whole areas were done with all services being ducted in reinforced concrete.

I would recommend a visit to Leicester to meet the town planning so any pitfalls can be eliminated and the work is only done once .
