Warminghurst set to hold choral workshop

The Warminghurst Choral Workshop 2014 culminates in a concert of beautiful music on Saturday June 21 at 6.30pm, led by conductor David Lawrence, who is very well known in the choral world.

The programme will include the Fauré Requiem, and the setting of Siegfried Sassoon’s poem, ‘Everyone Sang’, by William Lewellyn which was written especially for Warminghurst.

There is also the opportunity to hear Vaughan Williams’ ‘Lark Ascending’ played on a 1696 Stradivarius by Andrew Bernardi.

The concert is free and all are welcome. There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Friends of Warminghurst Church Roof Repair Fund.

The Warminghurst Choral Workshop was started by Jessica and Daniel Aggs in 1983 and held annually in June with David Lawrence leading the workshop for the latter thirteen years to 2003.

Since then the workshops have been intermittent, however this year’s will be in tribute to the founders and welcomes many regular attendees as well as new faces to the day.

David Lawrence returns as does the organist Julian Wilkins. The day is intense but rewarding for the singers and they strive to achieve a high standard to perform in the evening.

Warminghurst Church is maintained by The Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk.

With the help and support of the Trust, these churches are kept open and in use, living once again in the heart of their communities.

The Friends of Warminghurst Church is made up of volunteers who care about Warminghurst and help out in whatever way they can, and whose support is invaluable to keeping this beautiful, rural gem of a church active.

Any profit made from the Workshop, which is self financing, goes via The Friends of Warminghurst to The Churches Conservation Trust for the upkeep of the church that gives pleasure to so many visitors each year.
