Table tennis club celebrates 30 years

The club was founded by Rob Hoy in 1980, and started life as the Thakeham T.T.C.

The use of the village hall at Thakeham was lost in 1985, which saw the move to Steyning and a change in the club name. Since 1991 the club has been based at the gymnasium in the Grammar School in Church Street, but prior to this it had spells at the Octagonal Building at the Shooting Field school site, and the Nautical Training Corps hut in Mouse Lane. Alan Barwick, who has played for the club since the Thakeham days says: “We are a very friendly club and welcome players of all ages and abilities. You don’t have to play League table tennis, you can just come along for a knock-up. People can pay per session or take out a subscription.”
