The show is set in 1985 and rock-wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. He is jilted at the altar by his beloved fiancée Linda and falls into a deep depression.

Robbie is so distraught that he then makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. When he meets Julia, an admiring young waitress, Robbie falls madly in love. The only trouble is that Julia is about to be married to Glen, a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

With a score that pays loving homage to the pop songs of the 1980’s, The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just have been the coolest guy in the room. The show has a cast of 55 students from Years 7 - 13. The company is led by experienced Year 13 students, Will Carey and Katie Duke. Will is going on to study musical theatre at Guildford School of Acting, so this is the last chance to catch this rising star of the future on the SGS stage.

This show makes the most of the wonderful facilities at Steyning Grammar School, with a huge stage space and room for a large audience. The show is facilitated by a talented production team of former pupils who will create a rich musical experience, with lights, costume, set and sound all being of a high professional standard.
