Students debate international issues

The conference is organised and managed by Christ’s Hospital students who are members of the Schools Model United Nations team.

The simulation required the students to take on the role of diplomats and to negotiate settlement to a series of worldwide political, humanitarian and security problems. Each student represented the policies of a different country or international non-governmental organisation.

The students also had the opportunity to experience the more amiable aspects of international diplomacy, with an ambassador’s drinks reception and formal dinner.

The Christ’s Hospital Model United Nations (MUN) programme, aims to build an understanding of international relations amongst the next generation of global leaders and thinkers.

“Few events challenge the students in quite the same way: taking skills like research, analysis and communication learned in the classroom and employing them alongside skills such as leadership and self-confidence picked up on the sports pitch or in the boarding house”, commented Dr Alistair Goddard, the MUN Director at Christ’s Hospital. “That is what makes Model United Nations such an important activity at Christ’s Hospital.”
