The Head of the West Sussex Music service, James Underwood, presented the certificate to the school at a special singing assembly.

To achieve this award the school has worked on a diverse range and styles of singing including the use of three-part harmony in Years 3 and 4 and along the way pupils have been encouraged to write raps and songs based on their studies of the Spanish Armada.

Castlewood staff and children would like to thank singer/songwriter Emily Barden who has worked with them over the past year when singing has gone from strength to strength.

Emily has also supported a group of children to write a school song which the children have enjoyed learning and performing.

“Singing has been taken to the heart of our school community and is supported by everyone connected with the school,” said headteacher Mrs Julia Slocombe.

“I would also like to thank Mrs Rebecca Lucas, our Year 3 teacher, for all her hard work in encouraging everyone to embrace singing across the school and for passing on the advice and tips she received from attending ‘Sing Up’ training events to other staff.”
