Settle down for the ‘Big Cat Nap’

The Born Free Foundation’s Big Cat Nap is back 6-12th July, and there are more ways than ever to get involved and ‘do nothing’ for charity!

The Horsham-based charity’s Big Cat Nap highlights the plight of some of the world’s most beautiful and endangered animals through a range of sleep-themed activities.

Why not organise a ‘wear pyjamas to work or school day’ and collect cash from those who take part? Or try a sponsored sleep-in? Male lions sleep for up to 23 hours a day, so you’ll be in good company!

If that sounds a bit too energetic, you could take a sleepy pet selfie (human involvement optional) and share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using #BigCatNap.

Born Free will choose a winner which will be used to promote next year’s event, just like we’ve done with last year’s winner George, who was snapped ‘chilling out’ on a radiator by owner Erica Williams and shared on Facebook.

With big cat numbers plummeting and only 25,000 lions remaining in the wild in Africa and an estimated 3,500 tigers living wild in their native India, work to save these iconic species is desperate and has reached critical levels.

All money raised through the Big Cat Nap will go directly to supporting Born Free’s big cat projects - helping to protect threatened big cat species in the wild, as well as assisting in the daily care of the charity’s rescued big cats such as Sinbad the lion and Sami, Alam and Namira the leopard triplets who were rescued from terrible conditions and now live in another Born Free sanctuary at the Shamwari Wildlife Reserve in South Africa.
