Steven Edwards, winner of Masterchef 2013, with his business partner Josh Stanzl came along to support the event as they have taken C.H.A.N.C.E to be their charity to support.

Steven and Josh donated the promise of the ultimate dinner party! To come and cook a four course delicious dinner in your own home for 10 people. This went for £2,000 and was then matched, so they raised £4,000 for C.H.A.N.C.E.

Other promises, were a week’s holiday in a fabulous house in Croyde, which raised £2,500, a week’s holiday in Koi Samui raised £1,400. Dinner for four at the members only ‘The Club at The Ivy’ raised £800, plus many more. The main auction raised £17,250 and the silent auction £2,506.

Special thanks go to David Smail, who was auctioneer extraordinaire.

Richard Kettle, a magician had everyone spellbound with his magic. Ted Jackson, dressed as a Pizza Delivery man before serenading us all with his very own comic version of Nessun Dorma, to rapturous applause were the entertainment part of the evening. For both Richard and Ted, this was there third time of giving support to C.H.A.N.C.E.

Edmund O’Reilly Hyland and David Smail, trustees of C.H.A.N.C.E were delighted to hear that from the main auction, silent auction and ticket sales resulted in raising £23,166 from the evening, a record from a single event.

Barbara Datson, founder of C.H.A.N.C.E for Nepal, is thrilled with the results from Friday and wishes to say a huge thank everyone who supported the event by either donating a promise, bidding for one, attending the evening and giving support and help on the day, without all of you none of this would be possible.

Joanna Lumley is patron of C.H.A.N.C.E for NEPAL, which was founded by Barbara, who lives in Ewhurst, in 2006. C.H.A.N.C.E (Children’s Health and Nutrition, Care and Education) gives support to children covering five areas: Health, Street Children, Skills Training, Education and Rabies Vaccinations. Never did I think for one moment when I set off to India for an adventure 14 years ago we would now be able to say more than £385,000 has been raised for the children of Nepal.

“What started as an adventure has deepened into a real desire and passion to make a difference to the lives of children in Nepal where without doubt, thousands of lives have benefited and hundreds of lives have been saved. I am driven by the appalling statistic that one child in five dies before their fifth birthday!”

Barbara will be in Nepal for the month of November visiting the C.H.A.N.C.E projects.
