The national day, to be next held in May 2015, recognises playgroups, children’s centres and schools where children have space and time to play.

Manager Sharon Rea said: “We are delighted and extremely proud to have been nominated as play champions, to win the award is a real achievement for the whole dedicated team, and also for the recognition of our wonderful nursery.

“We aspire to the challenge to provide the best possible quality child care for every child in a happy and safe environment where children can develop and socialise.”

Play Champions are children’s centres, playgroups, schools and other settings where children find space and time for play of all kinds – creative, exploratory, imaginative, deep play, rough and tumble play, role play, mastery play – any type of play that involves children’s natural creativity and being able to do lots of things without needing to focus on specific, pre-determined outcomes.

National Children’s Day UK said to the nursery: “Many thanks for sending us your nomination form, policies and pictures and thanks for championing play in your setting.

“From your description and policies, your nursery sounds like such a beautiful place! We particularly like your Outdoor Play Strategy and your description of your free-flow to include your outdoor space.”
