‘Love Bury’ school fundraiser

Strawberries were served with lashings of local cream at Bury CE Primary School last weekend, when a fund-raising “Love Bury” event saw the school field transformed into a country music festival, complete with live bands, hay bales and a hog roast.

The sale of strawberries and cream (donated by Arundel Co-op and Charlie’s Farm Shop respectively) contributed to the £2,000 raised for the school during the day. Also tempting the taste buds were homemade cakes, Pimms and servings of sizzling pork - enjoyed by dozens of school parents, staff and local visitors, who sat in the sunshine at the foot of the South Downs to enjoy bands such as The Isles of Arun and Landon Sounds, thanks to Sharon Blaikie, Arundel Festival’s music director.

“It was a fantastic turn out,” says Harriet Gumbrell of Friends of Bury School, who helped to organise the event. “We were overwhelmed by the generosity not just of pupils’ parents, but also of the wider community, many of whom were educated at Bury CE Primary themselves.”
