LETTER: ‘Vision’ will be a ‘nightmare’

‘A Vision for the west of Southwater’ was presented to us by developers who want to build another 640 dwellings on fields of our last remaining farm (not a brownfield site please note).

MORE pressure on local roads, education and health facilities.

MORE destruction of our food producing capability.

MORE cement and Tarmac covering the land.

MORE risk of flooding and pollution.

MORE noise, MORE crowding.

MORE environmental destruction.

LESS quality of life in general.

For what are we making this sacrifice?More jobs?More houses for young people? I don’t think so.

Our local councillors who profess that all we need for a happy life is MORE, should reflect that more is indeed less and this particular ‘Vision’ has the potential to become a ‘Nightmare’.

They state that we MUST accept this as it is government policy. Our local MP keeps his head down on this issue. What a shame. So perhaps we need a new government, for this is certainly not localism.

What is local about the fact that the vast majority of our clothing and appliances are made in China where in the past they were made in our industrial north where people are crying out for work?

When major development was first proposed in our area the West Sussex County Times created a logo with the phrase ‘Planning Madness’.

Indeed it is.
