LETTER: Shattered by aircraft noise

The press release from Gatwick last week concerning the consultation document for a new flightpath was misleading. It did not explain the consequences of any new flightpath to the residents who are in direct line of any of the options proposed.

All options are bad news for those directly affected and the facts are that pilots are allowed to fly up to 0.5 miles either side of the designated flightpath and the noise of aircraft climbing after take off at full throttle travels a long way.

The consultation document is 120 pages long, full of technical details and terms that the layman has no chance of understanding. There is a questionnaire that needs to be completed to make sure that your views are heard, but it will be difficult to complete unless you have read the document and have some aviation knowledge. Who is going to read this document?

The only option for the peace of the area is to state on the form ‘No New Flight Paths and No New NPRs’ .

Beware Horsham and surrounding areas, you could be affected in the future especially if the second runway goes ahead. Gatwick has not released details of the flightpaths that will be used so aircraft could be flying over your homes soon.

I retired to Warnham four years ago, and like many others in the village expected to live out my days in this peaceful village after a busy, noisy working life. That was all shattered on February 17th when the new flightpath trial started.

It is true the planes have to fly somewhere, but why can’t they continue to use the old flight path? The reason is that by changing the flightpath Gatwick can get more planes into the air quicker and make more money for their share holders, all foreign companies. They are not interested in the communities that are being destroyed by their actions.
