LETTER: Questions over Gatwick workers

I am interested to know why you printed a photo in the WSCT from the Rusper May Day Fete, showing the anti-Gatwick (CAGNE).

I would have thought that a photo of the children dancing around the May Pole would have been more appropriate.

That’s of course unless WSCT is taking sides with this group.

Sally Pavey (spokesperson for this group) goes on to say in the letters section that the Airports Commission recognises that Gatwick will need 90,000 low skilled workers.

I have written to Sally Pavey to ask:

(A) What is the definition of a low skilled worker?

(B) How many low skilled workers do we have at Gatwick now?

(C) What is the current overall workforce at Gatwick now?

Her response was only to say she got the 90,000 from the Airports Commission, and could not give me any breakdown on the figures.

So here we have the spokesperson for this organisation quoting figures without knowing all the facts.

I do know that there is around 31,000 people working in and around the aviation industry for Gatwick, covering a multitude of jobs, technical and non- technical.

They also come from many towns around the South East, from London to the South Coast, and not just in a 15 mile radius of Gatwick.
