LETTER: Positive feedback from villagers

Re your article ‘Protest over green fields homes plan’ in your June 4 edition.

I was somewhat surprised by the lack of balance in your article concerning plans for the development of Stable Field. I am a resident of Wisborough Green and I am also the apparently ‘greedy’ developer that Mrs Aldersley has in her sights.

As a full-time resident of the village with children attending the local school, I have participated in the development of the Neighbourhood Plan with enthusiasm and the parish council is to be commended for their work which has at its heart fundamental questions about the future development of WG.

The plan has to address new and affordable housing for younger families but to balance this with the availability of school places as well as ensuring the best quality of life for those who live in the village as they approach and pass the retirement age, a category that includes almost a quarter of the residents of our village.

It is about building and strengthening our community across the ages.

The consultation has shown a preference for brownfield development yet the plan has not fully reflected this.

In all previous consultations Stable Field has been the preferred site over the sites selected for greenfield development but has been overlooked in the Plan.

Our proposal is designed to give local residents, and potentially their elderly relatives, the opportunity to continue to enjoy the best of village life with support, gardens and allotments, public spaces and extensive planting of native trees and flowers.

Access to the village centre will be along a new footpath arrangement that will also have the benefit of reducing speeds on Kirdford Road – a clear benefit to all of us.

This may be a plan for development, but it is one that someone who lives in, and cares about, the village has developed and one that has met with very positive feedback from villagers, although there are some such as Mrs Aldersley who obviously hold a different view.

The Neighbourhood Plan is available for review on Chichester District Council’s website together with all the background research and I would recommend people review it and comment according to their view.
