LETTER: Meltdown of democracy

There is a continuing crisis of democracy at Horsham District Council.

Cllr Connor Relleen (Con, Horsham Park) speaks out against Cllr Ray Dawe’s cabinet cabal and how Cllr Dawe’s cabinet have routinely held Advisory Groups, in which notes aren’t taken and which most of the advisory groups were unknown to the overwhelming majority of councillors (29.11.15, p1).

Cllr Relleen isn’t the first to have spoken out. Cllr Christian Mitchell has consistently done the same over the past two years.

Cllr Adrian Lee (Con, Denne) denies that Cllr Ray Dawe leads a ‘cabal’ at HDC (5.11.15, p34). Cllr Lee in his letter criticises Cllr Relleen for his remarks. Clearly the knives are out for Cllr Relleen just as they were for Cllr Mitchell.

And whilst this meltdown of democracy is taking place before our eyes just what is our MP Jeremy Quin doing? We see him dressed up as a fireman climbing up a ladder at the fire station showing off his derrière in rather unflattering fireproof trousers whilst again grinning to the cameras (5.11.15, p39).

Do we really have to be regaled with these weekly photo stunts from our MP? Horsham’s Capitol will shortly be showing a more professional pantomime with brighter costumes and far better lines that Mr Quin puts out each week.

Jeremy Quin must address the important issues going on in our town - not least planning. He must meet with Cllr Ray Dawe to address the meltdown of democracy at Horsham District Council and he must do this urgently.
