LETTER: Information on a need to know basis

I note that the most recent meeting of Cllr Dawe and Helena Croft’s cabinet only lasted 12 minutes (County Times June 12, p60). I should have thought there would be plenty to publicly discuss - most recently the damning ruling by the Advertising Standards Agency on Liberty’s leaflet - and what about Cllr Circus’ suggestion that the cabinet system be abandoned returning to the committee structure.

How about a debate on how to change the culture of the council so that its business is completely transparent together with the measures needed to regain the trust and confidence of the electorate?

But clearly they take the view that information should be on a ‘need to know basis’ – the public should be grateful that there was a meeting in public at all!
