LETTER: Cycling wisdom at design stage

Having looked through both editions of the July 16 County Times, I was disappointed to note that the article on the Horsham District Cycling Forum by Berny Torre was not included in the South Downs edition.

As HDCF input will be appropriate and desirable for all major - and even less than major - developments across the district, I think this omission unfortunate.

A local example I can think of is the Millford Grange development adjacent to the A283 between Storrington and the Washington roundabout on the A24 - this is a 78 home settlement due for completion next summer.

As things appear at this moment, the occupants of these new homes will find inadequate / poor pavements to use if they wish to walk into Storrington or to Washington and no consideration for safe cycling to access these local villages.

So the car it is - increasing air pollution and road congestion.

HDCF’s advice at the planning stage could provide much needed wisdom.
