LETTER: Chance for super new leisure centre

Shame on Horsham District Council! It is putting its greed for profit before its obligations to the community.

The over-development of the Broadbridge Heath ‘Quadrant’for retail purposes and the under-development of the proposed new leisure centre, say it all.

HDC is exercising mind over matter, it doesn’t mind and the users of the leisure centre don’t matter.

Thousands of new homes are being built in the Broadbridge Heath catchment area. As far as HDC is concerned they are potential customers, but of the retail park not the leisure centre. Why?

I could go on about how important it is to take exercise, whether young or old. I could go on about how important it is for people of all ages to have a social life, in the true meaning of the word ‘social’. This would be stating the obvious and it has all been said before.

I will, however, repeat a fact that has been said before and that is, it is important that the replacement leisure centre at Broadbridge Heath be bigger and better than at present so as to accommodate all the extra people from the new housing in the area.

Come on HDC, stop being penny pinching. We have all heard the rumour that you will be getting millions of pounds extra for selling the existing sports track for apartments.

Now is your chance to give us a super new leisure centre that the town will be proud of. It will be used and it will make you money, if you give the users what they want instead of what you want.
