LETTER: The buck stops with Mr Maude

I note that in para 26 he says (when considering the Mayfield New Town proposal), ‘The deliverability of the preferred 10,000 dwelling option with employment development within two local authority areas without their support and in the face of strong opposition from two local MPs, parish councils and local people including land owners is also an issue of concern’.

What a contrast in his treatment of Mid Sussex. Their council didn’t roll over. When their preliminary report was prepared following their initial meeting with an inspector, their council leader objected formally in the strongest terms. What did Cllr Dawe do?

There you have it... ‘strong opposition’ and Mr Salter took note of it.

What a difference from our senior figures (Cllrs Dawe, Croft, Vickers and Mr Crowley). They had reached agreement with the top personnel in Mid Sussex District Council not to support the new town proposal.

Mr Maude, current Horsham MP, did nothing to help his electors in northern Horsham. He was silent and he certainly did not go before the inspector and help us as the Mid Sussex MPs did for their constituents.

And now in your paper he applauds ‘Councillors for making ‘difficult decisions’. To me it looks like he simply became the agent for imposing flawed Government policy on his constituents and although we have a weak council at the end of the day the buck stops with Mr Maude.
