Markets don’t care. People care.

Robert Phillips, whose wife Sheila received ‘end of life’ care (‘The care offered at hospice goes ‘beyond the call of duty’, WSCT, July 30): “My career in commerce had taught me the ‘primary motivation’ was profit, but contact with the hospice, and seeing people working hard out of the goodness of their own hearts, was a revelation.”

Profits don’t care. People care.

Philosopher Noam Chomsky: “Social Security is based on a principle. It’s based on the principle that you care about other people. You care whether the widow across town, a disabled widow, is going to be able to have food to eat.”
