Jigsaw pupils receive new animations kits

Jigsaw, based on Dunsfold Park, specialises in educating children with an autism spectrum disorder and has been supported by Ripley Court School for the last three and a half years. Their latest donation has enabled Jigsaw to purchase a number of new resources, including the animation kits.

Jigsaw pupils, like many people with autism, benefit greatly from equipment which encourages play and imagination and which helps develop creativity.

The animation kits not only help with this but also encourage communication and collaborative working by providing ways of bringing their ideas to life as animated films.

As Jigsaw’s Head of Curriculum, Mariann Szabo, explained, “These kits have been at the top of our Wishlist for a while now, so we are really grateful to Ripley Court School for their latest donation.

“Our pupils will benefit in so many ways – they will be working together on projects, developing their communication and collaboration skills.

“They will have the opportunity to put life into the characters they are creating and to use their artistic talents to make backgrounds and props for their films.

“Their debut animation will be ‘Dinosaurs In Space’ and everybody at Jigsaw is looking forward to watching the finished film. ”

The benefits to pupils don’t end there - creating the individual characters from modelling clay and painting the background scenery will help to develop pupils’ fine motor skills, making storylines and narrating their films will assist with their communication and development of vocabulary and the specialised software will help pupils develop their ICT skills.
