Jigsaw CABAS® School educates children with an autism spectrum disorder at its base on Dunsfold Park and its Life Skills Centre in Guildford.

Jigsaw+ Adult Services supports young people with autism with their transition into adulthood and to help them make positive, personal choices that enhance their wellbeing, independence and social inclusion. Jigsaw’s social enterprise, Café on the Park, provides a safe, caring and supportive environment for pupils and clients to undertake real work experience opportunities and develop valuable life skills.

Jigsaw’s next social enterprise is GARDENworks, with a garden being created and maintained on Dunsfold Park by pupils and clients, under the supervision of Horticulture Consultant, Rob Steer. Rob said, “It is widely recognised that many people with autism enjoy sensory activities and gardening enables our clients and pupils to do this in an outdoor setting. The garden will be made available for the pleasure and enjoyment of all employees and visitors to Dunsfold Park.”.

The aims of GARDENworks are to provide meaningful and engaging activities for the pupils and clients and for them to contribute positively to their environment and community. Jigsaw’s Café on the Park will benefit from the fruit, vegetables and herbs which will be used in seasonal dishes that the children and young adults will help create.

Jigsaw’s Community & Events Fundraiser, Yvette Copping, added, “Pupils and clients are really looking forward to getting their green-fingers dirty. We have already received great support from Dunsfold Park and local businesses but we still need gardening tools and pots. As this is the time of year when people are clearing out their sheds, we would love to hear from any local people who may be able to help us.”. If you are able to support GARDENworks, please call Jigsaw’s fundraising team on 01483 279674.

Rob Steer will be doing his own fundraising for the project, in August, when he walks the full 186 miles of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. He can be sponsored at www.justgiving.com/RobSteerWalk.
