Horsham churches unite to worship

The theme for the week of prayer in 2015, ‘The Well is Deep’, comes from the gospel of John: “Jesus said to her: ‘Give me to drink’”. The theme was proposed by a group of Brazilian Christians called together by the National Council of Christian Churches of Brazil (CONIC). The biblical gesture of offering water to whomever arrives, as a way of welcoming and sharing, is something that is repeated in all regions of Brazil. The biblical text of the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman, invites us to try water from a different well and also to offer a little of our own. In diversity we enrich each other.

Horsham Churches Together (HCT) organised prayer meetings in Horsham throughout the week which were held on different evenings at St Leonards Church, St Andrews Methodist Church, United Reformed Church, Trafalgar Road Baptist Church, London Road Methodist Church, the Y – Centre and St Mary’s.

The week concluded with a United Service at St Mary’s, Causeway, which was led by Kingdom Faith Church, who led a lively service which was well attended by Christians of all ages.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a privileged moment for prayer, encounter and dialogue. It is an opportunity to recognize the richness and value that are present in the other, the different, and to ask God for the gift of unity.

Ian Fletcher, HCT Coordinator explained “Attendance at the prayer meetings was high throughout the week, which was a great delight to those who led the meetings and a witness to the unity we share through Horsham Churches Together. The retiring collection, which will be distributed amongst the local Christian charities partnered with HCT, raised £500.00. We are blessed by the generosity of our united community.”
