If so why not enter your garden or vegetable plot in the Horsham In Bloom Summer Competition. The top prize can be £150! That would buy you a lot of plants or vegetables for next year.

Horsham in Bloom judges are conscious every year of the patience of gardeners as they battle with the vagaries of the British weather and we wish to congratulate you on the best that you can achieve.

So if you produce colourful displays of flowers and high-quality vegetables why not enter? There are four categories for the various competitions. The Front Garden Award is open to all residents of Horsham Town and surrounding Parishes of Mannings Heath, Southwater and Warnham. Judges will be looking for a good balance of perennial and annual planting. Your garden must be visible from the road. The judging for this category will be either the first or second week in August.

Other competition categories are wide-ranging; ‘Best Kept Allotment’; ’Best Community Project’ and ‘Best Basket or Container Award’. Judging criteria for all of the above will relate to general maintenance and good practice. An allotment in particular should show excellent vegetables, good water conservation, composting and best use of plot. The Hanging Basket should immediately catch the eye and show an exciting choice of plant material. The Community Project should involve a group of volunteers whose work has evolved throughout the year to enhance an area and for the benefit of wildlife. Judging will take place at some point in August. Entrants need not be there when judges visit.

So don’t be shy! Look around your garden, community project , allotment and at your hanging baskets and if you think you deserve a reward and recognition for all your good work enter the competition where there are prizes not just for winners but also the most promising newcomer.

Prize winners will be invited to the Presentation Event in September. Further details, guidelines and entry forms can be found on the HIB website www.horshaminbloom.org.uk. Or you can contact Jean Griffin on 01403 261892 or Heather Shopland on 01403 270587 to request an entry form.
