On the theme of Remembrance, the children took a detailed look at the politics and social history of the period, with a particular focus on the Second World War.

The topic culminated in a World War II tea party for local elderly residents, some of whom lived through the War as children. Guests were invited to an afternoon of tea, cakes and entertainment provided by the pupils.

Jengers Craft Bakery in Jengers Mead, Billingshurst, kindly donated an assortment of buns and pastries while the children put on a performance including a good old-fashioned wartime sing-along.

During the event the children spoke to their guests about their memories of the War which really brought the subject to life and provided an invaluable opportunity to hear from those with first-hand experience.

Mark Sheath, the owner of Jengers Craft Bakery commented:

“We were honoured to be involved in this event and play some part in helping the pupils to learn, understand and mark the Second World War with our local residents. It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon with lots of singing and a nostalgic look-back at traditional tea dances.”
