Evening of music in Horsham

Musicians from all over the UK are converging on Horsham this weekend to present an evening of music at The Salvation Army Church & Community Centre in Booth Way on Saturday evening.

The musicians who form the Salvation Army Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SASWE ) are drawn from the Salvation Army and a number of other Christian denominations. SASWE was formed in 1994 after an experimental rehearsal and debut concert in Ilford proved successful, and is still running because of a desire by its woodwind instrumentalists to continue performing in an environment traditionally known for it’s brass excellence.

The present Musical Director, Andrew R. Mackereth, is well-known for his compositions and arrangement. With a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Birmingham Conservatoire Andrew, has more than fifty compositions; both religious and secular, in print; many frequently feature on the concert programmes of premier Salvation Army and other bands, and are continually featured on international broadcasts and recordings.

Away from his time with SASWE, Andrew is Head Teacher of a school in the West Midlandsand Bandmaster at the Salvation Army in Nuneaton.

He continues to be in demand as conductor, composer and lecturer and has appeared throughout the United Kingdom, America, Germany and Argentina.

The concert programme will include a wide range of music from classical arrangements, through hymn settings, marches and soloists to swing. The concert begins at 7pm on Saturday 5th October and tickets are available at £6 (£3 for under16s) on 01403 254624 or on the door.
